Crispy Panko-Crusted Prawns
Crispy panko-crusted prawns are a quick and delicious appetizer, perfect for air frying to achieve a crunchy coating with a succulent center.
Ingredients
- 300g raw king prawns, peeled and deveined
- 45g plain flour
- 1 large egg, beaten
- 1 tbsp mayonnaise
- 90g panko breadcrumbs
- 1 tbsp neutral oil
- 1 tsp smoked paprika
- ½ tsp garlic granules
- ½ tsp fine sea salt
- ¼ tsp ground white pepper
- ½ tsp lemon zest
- Lemon wedges
- Dip of choice
Method
- Dry the prawns thoroughly with kitchen paper.
- Set up three coating bowls: one with flour, salt, and pepper; one with beaten egg and mayonnaise; and one with panko, remaining salt, paprika, garlic granules, lemon zest, and oil.
- Coat each prawn in flour, then egg mixture, and finally panko, pressing firmly.
- Rest coated prawns for 5-10 minutes in the fridge.
- Preheat air fryer to 200°C for 3 minutes.
- Load prawns in a single layer in the air fryer basket, spraying any dry patches with oil.
- Air fry for 5 minutes, turn, and cook for another 2-3 minutes until golden and opaque.
- Check doneness and serve immediately with lemon wedges and dip.
