Crispy Panko-Crusted Prawns

Crispy panko-crusted prawns are a quick and delicious appetizer, perfect for air frying to achieve a crunchy coating with a succulent center.

Ingredients

  • 300g raw king prawns, peeled and deveined
  • 45g plain flour
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • 1 tbsp mayonnaise
  • 90g panko breadcrumbs
  • 1 tbsp neutral oil
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • ½ tsp garlic granules
  • ½ tsp fine sea salt
  • ¼ tsp ground white pepper
  • ½ tsp lemon zest
  • Lemon wedges
  • Dip of choice

Method

  1. Dry the prawns thoroughly with kitchen paper.
  2. Set up three coating bowls: one with flour, salt, and pepper; one with beaten egg and mayonnaise; and one with panko, remaining salt, paprika, garlic granules, lemon zest, and oil.
  3. Coat each prawn in flour, then egg mixture, and finally panko, pressing firmly.
  4. Rest coated prawns for 5-10 minutes in the fridge.
  5. Preheat air fryer to 200°C for 3 minutes.
  6. Load prawns in a single layer in the air fryer basket, spraying any dry patches with oil.
  7. Air fry for 5 minutes, turn, and cook for another 2-3 minutes until golden and opaque.
  8. Check doneness and serve immediately with lemon wedges and dip.
