Crispy Honey-Balsamic Brussels Sprouts

A delicious and easy-to-make crispy honey-balsamic Brussels sprouts recipe, perfect for air frying.

Ingredients

  • 500g Brussels sprouts, trimmed and halved
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 2 tablespoons balsamic vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 garlic clove, minced

Method

  1. Preheat your air fryer to 200°C (390°F).
  2. In a large bowl, toss the Brussels sprouts with olive oil, salt, and pepper.
  3. Place the sprouts in the air fryer basket in a single layer.
  4. Cook for 10-12 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through, until the sprouts are golden and crispy.
  5. While the sprouts are cooking, prepare the glaze by combining balsamic vinegar, honey, soy sauce, and minced garlic in a small saucepan.
  6. Heat the glaze on medium-low until slightly thickened, about 4-5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  7. Once the Brussels sprouts are done, transfer them back to the bowl and drizzle with the honey-balsamic glaze.
  8. Toss to coat and serve immediately.

Why this works in an air fryer

The high heat and rapid air circulation of the air fryer promote even cooking and surface dehydration, resulting in crispy Brussels sprouts without excessive oil.

Equipment notes

Assumes a 3.5L basket; for dual-zone fryers, use the top zone for even crisping. Adjust time if using a smaller or larger basket.

Common pitfalls

  • Sprouts not crisping by minute 8? Reduce batch size to ensure a single layer.
  • Glaze too thin? Increase heat slightly and stir continuously until it coats the back of a spoon.
  • Burnt edges? Lower temperature by 10°C and check at minute 8 for doneness.

Variations & substitutions

  • Substitute maple syrup for honey for a deeper sweetness.
  • Add a pinch of chilli flakes to the glaze for a spicy kick.
  • Use apple cider vinegar instead of balsamic for a milder tang.

Storage & reheating

Store in an airtight container for up to 3 days; reheat in the air fryer at 180°C for 3-4 minutes.
