Air Fryer Recipe
Breakfast sausage patties
A delicious and easy-to-make breakfast sausage patties recipe, perfect for air frying.
Ingredients
- 500g pork mince
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon dried sage
- 1 teaspoon ground thyme
- 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
- 1 tablespoon maple syrup (optional)
Method
- In a large bowl, combine the pork mince, salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, sage, thyme, red pepper flakes, and maple syrup.
- Mix until all the ingredients are well incorporated but be cautious not to overmix.
- Form the mixture into small, round patties about 7 cm in diameter and 1 cm thick.
- Preheat your air fryer to 180°C.
- Arrange the patties in a single layer in the air fryer basket.
- Cook for 8-10 minutes, flipping halfway through, until the patties are golden brown and cooked through.
- Serve immediately with your choice of accompaniments.
Why this works in an air fryer
The air fryer uses convection to circulate hot air, ensuring even cooking and a crispy exterior on the patties while rendering the fat from the pork mince effectively.
Equipment notes
Assumes a standard 3.5L basket; in a dual-zone air fryer, cook in one zone only to maintain airflow, potentially increasing time by 1-2 minutes.
Common pitfalls
- Patties not browning by minute 5? Increase temperature by 10°C; the air fryer may be underpowered.
- Patties falling apart? Ensure mixture is compact and not overmixed; excess handling breaks down the protein structure.
- Dry patties? Reduce cooking time by 2 minutes; overcooking can dry out the pork.
- Uneven cooking? Flip more frequently if patties are thicker than 1 cm.
Variations & substitutions
- Substitute chicken mince for a lighter option; reduce cooking time by 1-2 minutes.
- Use fresh herbs instead of dried for a more intense flavour; add them just before forming patties.
- Replace maple syrup with honey for a different sweetness profile; watch for quicker browning due to sugar content.
- Omit red pepper flakes for a milder version; adjust other spices to maintain flavour balance.
Storage & reheating
Reheat in the air fryer at 160°C for 3-4 minutes; keeps for up to 3 days in the refrigerator.
